About Sweeton Injury Law

Where Compassion Meets Justice.

At Sweeton Injury Law, we believe that justice is not just about compensation. It’s about healing. We are a trauma-informed boutique law firm dedicated to helping individuals who have experienced life-altering events, such as brain injuries, accidents, assaults, and other traumatic incidents. Our mission is to provide compassionate, expert legal representation while empowering our clients to reclaim their lives.
Founded by Dr. Jennifer Sweeton, a Missouri-licensed attorney (Bar No. 78235), clinical and forensic psychologist, and neuroscientist, Sweeton Injury Law serves clients at the intersection of physical injury, psychological trauma, and the legal system. With a deep understanding of trauma, PTSD, and frequently co-occurring conditions such as traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), we approach every case with care, precision, and an unwavering commitment to securing meaningful outcomes. We recognize that the effects of trauma are not always visible, and we work to ensure that both the seen and unseen consequences of injury are fully understood and properly addressed.

how we help

Practice Areas

At Sweeton Injury Law, we do things differently. We’re not just another law firm juggling
hundreds of cases at a time. We are a trauma-informed boutique firm that prioritizes quality over quantity, ensuring every client receives the personalized attention they deserve. While Dr. Sweeton will serve as your main point of contact, we don’t work alone. We collaborate with some of the brightest minds in law, neuroscience, and trauma recovery to ensure every aspect of your case is handled with precision and care. Our areas of expertise include the following.
All Services

Brain Injury & Concussion Litigation

Brain injuries are frequently misunderstood or minimized, especially when imaging appears normal. We represent individuals whose cognitive, emotional, and neurological functioning has been altered by concussion or traumatic brain injury and work to ensure those injuries are properly understood in litigation.

Sexual Assault & Abuse

Sexual assault cases often involve profound psychological harm and complex trauma responses. We represent survivors in civil litigation against individuals and institutions, bringing trauma science and psychological expertise to cases where memory, disclosure, and long-term impact are frequently misunderstood.

Serious Injury & Catastrophic Harm

We represent individuals whose lives have been altered by severe injury, including cases involving long-term disability, neurological injury, and complex damages requiring extensive medical and expert analysis.

Psychological Injury & PTSD

Serious trauma can cause life-altering psychological injuries, including post-traumatic stress disorder and related trauma conditions. These cases require careful understanding of trauma, memory, and mental health — areas where scientific expertise can make a critical difference.

Institutional Negligence

When organizations fail to protect the people in their care, the consequences can be devastating. We pursue civil cases involving institutional negligence, including schools, treatment facilities, employers, and other organizations that failed to prevent serious harm.

Advocacy for Mental Health Professionals

We represent psychologists, therapists, and other mental health professionals in matters involving legal risk, record requests, subpoenas, licensing issues, and other situations where clinical practice intersects with the legal system.

They Found Your Therapy Records. Now What?

The key to defeating this defense is demonstrating the difference between before and after, and that's where some attorneys fall short. Not because they're bad lawyers, but because they don't have the clinical training to interpret mental health records, understand diagnostic criteria, or explain the difference between a managed pre-existing condition and a new trauma-related injury. At Sweeton Injury Law, that's exactly what we do. I’ve spent many years as a clinical psychologist specializing in trauma. I know how to read those records, contextualize them, and turn them from the defense's weapon into your strongest evidence.

The Neuroscience of Sexual Assault: Why Your Brain's Response to Trauma Is Evidence, Not Weakness

If you are a survivor of sexual assault, there is something I need you to understand before you read another word: your brain did exactly what it was supposed to do. The nightmares, the flashbacks, the way your body freezes when something reminds you of what happened. None of that is a sign that something is wrong with you. It is a sign that something was done to you, and your brain recorded every bit of it.
